Happy Groundhog Day

Yes, we find weird things to distract us. This particular distraction has been going on since 1887 in the United States.

My good friend google tells me that:

Groundhog Day is a popular observance in many parts of the United States. Although some states have in some cases adopted their own groundhogs, the official groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, lives at Gobbler’s Knob near Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Supposedly if the groundhog sees his shadow there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Well this year Phil saw his shadow. But wait, we have controversy amongst the woodchucks. Staten Island Chuck from New York and Scubenacadie Sam from Nova Scotia did not see their shadows.

No word yet on what Long Island Larry or Virginia Beech Billy saw. I made those last two up, they sound like groundhog names. Maybe I’ll create a random name generator for groundhogs? Enter your state or town and it will come back with a catchy name for your favorite rodent.

I think my time would be better spent watching a Bill Murray marathon. Start off with Groundhog Day, then Caddyshack. What would be the third?
